Beastlore Episode 10 - Transcending Duality: The Caduceus, Ouroboros and Divine Unity in Spiritual Alchemy and Western Esotericism

Episode 10 of Beastlore is about the caduceus and the ouroboros, the intertwined serpent staff and the tail-eating dragon and their role in alchemy and the western esoteric tradition. Host Jack Daly shares his knowledge of this subject, which constitutes his master's thesis research. The caduceus and the ouroboros come to represent the union of opposites, the hieros gamos, which is in one respect the union of the human with the divine. Topics such as Pharaonic headdresses, Mesoamerican mythology, Jungian psychology, Peruvian shamanism and Taoism are explored in respect to their connection to the union of opposites and serpent worship are covered. Host Jack Daly tracks the history of the chupacabra, and explains how the origin of this creature may not be what you would expect. The vampiric history of colonialism and its tie to the chupacabra is also explored. As always, some explanations for what the chupacabra might be are offered. Episode 7 of Beastlore is all about ghosts. Host Jack Daly takes the listener through the history of Nessie, which is said to have begun in the 6th Century AD when St. Columba had an encounter with a water monster in the River Ness. Theories of what Nessie might be are put forth, which include the theories that it is a plesiosaur and that it is the result of pareidolia.
